PFA Update Tournament 9/27/14

Antonito, Colorado–September 26, 2014    Twenty-four top fly anglers from five nations will cast their fly lines in the waters of Southern Colorado hoping to land the 2014 Pro Fly Angling Tour Championship and cash prizes.
The Conejos River on the private Canon Bonito Fisherman’s Club  will be the venue for the competition.  The official walk through for the PFA Tour members will be on Friday, September 26th with the competition commencing at 9:00 am on Saturday, September 27th.  For directions go to www.canonbonitorv.com.
This area of Colorado may be best known for the Great Sand Dunes National Park, but anglers will be rewarded with spectacular fishing in a beautiful mountain setting.
“We’re excited to bring the PFA Tour Championship to the San Luis Valley, which is another great example of the amazing fisheries we have in the United States,” explains Anthony Naranja, Founder of the Pro Fly Angling Tour.
“Antonito and the surrounding villages are home to the Conejos River, Los Pinos River and countless mountain streams and lakes with views of the Continental Divide.  International tourists enjoy this area while experiencing the historic Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad.  Outdoor enthusiasts take in the limitless hunting, fishing, hiking and camping opportunities of this world-class sportsman’s paradise,” shares Aaron Abeyta, Mayor of Antonito.
“What a moment in our neighborhood, the PFA Tour is coming,” adds Pat Blakenship of the Conejos Fly Shop.  “The PFA Tour members and fans will see why we love this area.”
The Pro Fly Angling Tour is a new sports property that is providing the competitive angler a platform to showcase angling skill, physical stamina, and mental focus.  Innovative designs in gear, flies, and techniques are common as PFA Tour members pioneer their way through this new format, which includes a 1/2 mile run during the event.
Each competitor gets 20 minutes to catch and release fish and then moves to a new section of water.  Help on the bank comes from a fishing caddy.  The caddy can assist with flies and rods, or give advice on presentation and tactics.  Anglers fish from 9:00am to mid afternoon covering all sections of the competition water.
The event is free and open to the public.
Host, Raleigh Cain along with camera and audio crews will capture the event.   The first episode of 2014  PFA Tour Season video series will be released in October on www.pfatour.org.
